Ulcerative colitis
Ulcerative colitis is a long-term condition that affects the colon. The colon, which is also known as the large intestine, removes nutrients from undigested food and expels waste products from the body. Symptoms of ulcerative colitis can range from mild to severe, and include bloody diarrhoea, abdominal pain, a frequent need to go to the toilet and weight loss. For some people, the condition is a minor inconvenience, while for others it can seriously affect their quality of life.
