Frozen shoulder
Frozen shoulder is a condition that causes restriction of
motion in the shoulder joint and can be intensely painful. It is one of the
commonest causes of shoulder pain and affects women more than men. In addition,
diabetics have more shoulder pain and frozen shoulder complaints than the rest
of the population.
Frozen shoulder can occur after an injury or prolonged
immobilization of the shoulder, such as after surgery or an arm fracture. Being
diabetic may cause the immune system to attack the healthy parts of the body,
in this case the capsule and connective tissue of the shoulder. Even other
health conditions such as heart disease and lung disease may increase the
risk of developing frozen shoulder.
