Dysthymic disorder
Dysthymic disorder is a fairly
common type of depression. It presents itself as an almost daily-depressed
mood, but without the necessary criteria for a major depression, which lasts
for at least two years. It is usually mild or moderate depression, rather than
severe.
Dysthymic disorder generally
occurs during early adulthood, although it can also occur in children and
adolescents.
Its onset is gradual, so it is difficult to accurately
recall the exact time when it begins.
