Lymphatic disorders

A lymphatic disorder is a condition that affects the lymphatic system. Sometimes swelling can occur due to blockages in the lymphatic system which normally affect the limbs, although the face, neck and abdomen can also be affected.

Sometimes this can be caused by infection or it may also be an indication of cancer, for instance, Hodgkin’s and non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. In bad cases of lymphatic disorder, elephantiasis can occur, which presents as a thickening of the skin and enlargement of tissues in the leg, and the genitals in men and breasts in women. This is caused by a parasitic disease known as lympathic filariasis.
