Epilepsy

Epilepsy is a brain disorder in which nerve cells in the brain sometimes send out an abnormal signal.

These nerve cells — also known as neurons — normally generate electrochemical impulses that act on other neurons, glands, and muscles to produce human thoughts, feelings, and actions.

With epilepsy, the normal pattern of activity becomes disturbed, and symptoms of epilepsy occur such as strange sensations, emotions and behaviour sometimes leading to convulsions, muscle spasms, and loss of consciousness.

Epilepsy is not contagious and is not caused by a mental illness and virtually anyone can have a seizure under the right circumstances.
