Cataracts
A cataract occurs when the lens of the eye is clouded over. At first, this clouding of the lens may be translucent and it is still possible to see. But if the cataract is left untreated, it can gradually thicken until loss of vision or blindness occurs.
When the cataract is in the earliest stages, the power of the lens of the eye may be increased, causing near-sightedness or myopia. There is also a gradual lessening of the perception of the blue spectrum colours which is caused by the yellowing of the cataract.
