Cancer
Cancer refers to a class of malign diseases in which there is uncontrolled cell growth or division so that they invade into other areas of the body or spread via the lymph or blood system. This is in contrast to benign cancers which do not grow or invade or spread throughout the body.
There are many different symptoms for cancer, according to the area of the body that is affected, ranging from:
- bowel movement changes
- chronic cough
- fever
- pain
- persistent fatigue
- unintentional weight loss
However, many of the above symptoms can also apply to a whole range of other diseases, and so a medical test is required for diagnosis. With most cancers, a tumour is formed, although not always, for instance, in leukaemia.
Cancers can affect those of all ages — even babies in the womb — but the elderly are the most at risk group.
