Anorexia (otherwise known as anorexia nervosa) is an eating disorder. It is caused by a psychiatric
condition that is characterised by low body weight and body image distortion.
Anorexics try to control their weight by starving themselves or undertaking
gruelling exercise regime. They may also use diet pills or diuretic drugs.
Anorexia primarily affects teenage girls, while only about
10 per cent of sufferers are males.
